Frequently Asked Questions

1.        What file formats do you accept for custom designs?

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) files are a popular and versatile open-standard format and widely supported by laser software. SVG files are ideal for line engraving because they are composed of paths, lines, and curves defined by mathematical equations. This means they can be scaled infinitely without any loss of quality or resolution. The laser machine follows these paths precisely, resulting in clean, sharp lines and cuts.

For pictures, we accept raster files like JPG /JPEG, PNG and BMP files for photo-realistic or shaded engravings. Raster files are made up of a grid of individual pixels. These are used for engraving photos, complex graphics, and designs that require shading, gradients, or a “fill” pattern. The quality of a raster engraving is highly dependent on the original file’s resolution (DPI – dots per inch). For a raster file to engrave well, it should have a high resolution (ideally 300 DPI or higher) and good contrast between light and dark areas.

2.        Can you cut material with your laser?

We currently run a blue diode and fiber laser galvo laser machine that is not set up for laser cutting material like a gantry laser machine. However, we plan to add a gantry laser machine in the future.

3.        Can I provide my own item for engraving?

Yes, but we would request an additional sample for running material test grids to determine the optimal engraving settings.
